The Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Zimbabwe) abbreviated as ICPA (Z) was incorporated as a Company in 1984 as the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (ZIPFA) and subsequently changed its name in May 2007 to its current name. ICPA(Z) is independent of Government control and, like all other accounting bodies in Zimbabwe (including nominating member), is a member of the local Public Accountants and Auditors Board which oversees all accounting and auditing bodies in the country. . The Institute is also a member of the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) PAAB and its member bodies adopt IFAC Code of Ethics and ICPA(Z), like other members of IFAC in Zimbabwe, therefore has no direct responsibility for establishing its own code of ethics. ICPA (Z) is based in Zimbabwe. The official language of Zimbabwe is English. ICPAZ examinations are conducted in the English language.

ICPAZ Compliance with IFAC SMOs - MODULE SMO 5

This SMO deals with the provisions relating to International Public Sector Accounting Standards. In Zimbabwe IFRS is used instead of IPSAS. However, the Applicant conducts specific workshops and examinations to cover IPSAS in view of its wide membership body representation in the Public Sector.

Technical support for members.

• Public Accountants and Auditors Board in Zimbabwe publishes guidance notes to members of all professional institutes in order to reduce the opportunity for conflicting application.
• ICPA (Z) introduced a CPD program that will meet the requirements of IFAC as practised by other local IFAC members. As a member of the Zimbabwean PAAB, ICPA (Z) has adopted IFRS, IAS, IFAC Code of Ethics and IAASB Pronouncements regarding auditing.

ICPA established processes for the handling of complaints by the Public.

• An independent team is responsible for investigation of complaints that may be received.
• A lawyer sits as the chairperson of the disciplinary committee of the institute.
• The chairman of the disciplinary committee reports to Council
• Council reports to PAAB.
